I recently had the opportunity to speak to multi time world champion Lisa “Bad News†Brown about what she has been up to since her controversial loss in Korea and her upcoming WBA Super Bantamweight world title fight against Ana “The Hurricane†Julaton on March 27th at Casino Rama for Rumble at Rama XI.
TBE: What have you been up to since your controversial loss in Korea?
Lisa: Since my fight in Korea I have been training hard and preparing for any upcoming fight which has now materialized. My trainer Errol Brown and I have made fantastic adjustments on my style and skills and how to execute when necessary.
TBE: Your match in Korea ended in a disputed decision and your team filed a protest to the I.F.B.A. what was the outcome of your protest?
Lisa: The outcome was that they will leave the outcome as is. The sanctioning body was there, she (Judy Kulis) was there. She knows I won the fight but out of fear she appeased and allowed the Korean to keep the victory however it should have been rule a “no contestâ€Â.
TBE: Your upcoming fight at Casino Rama is your first world title fight at home and one of the toughest fights of your career, what are your thoughts on this opportunity?
Lisa: I’m excited, so excited I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for so long and it has finally happened. All things happen at the right time and this is the right time for me because I have been working and perfecting being a boxer-puncher. This is my time.
TBE: What do you know about Ana “The Hurricane†Julaton?
Lisa: I don’t know much about Lisa, I have never seen her fight and actually I don’t need to know anything about her. I know what her game plan is going to be. The day of the fight, the night of the fight when we both step in the ring then we will see who the best fighter is. I’m not going down there to lay down for nobody. I am going out there to put on a show and dictate and win this fight impressively.
TBE: How is your training and preparation going overall?ÂÂ
Lisa: My training is going tremendously well, I have been working on a few new things and have been sparring a lot. I have been listening to my coach and using his knowledge to make the proper adjustments and he is happy of my performance. I’m doing great and will be ready for March 27th.
TBE: What are your plans for the rest of 2010?
Lisa: My plan for the rest of 2010 is to fight, fight, fight, fight! Any fight there is I want to fight. Throughout my career I usually fight or one or two times a year and after I beat Ana I know I will get more fights. I’m a fighter, I’ll fight anywhere, anytime tell me who where and how much.
TBE: This upcoming match at Casino Rama is for the vacant WBA Super Bantamweight championship however Ryan Wissow, the President of the W.I.B.A. initially stated on Facebook just after the fight was officially announced three weeks ago that if you are not successful in your upcoming bout he will strip you of your  world title. What are your thoughts on his statement?
Lisa: I’m surprised to hear that because I did not see it or hear about it, this is the first time I have heard about it. I am disappointed at the way he has approached this, we always had a mutual agreement and relationship and for him to put something on Facebook like that is unjust and unfair.
TBE: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Lisa: Yes I would like to thank God for giving me the health and strength and my husband who continues to support me and my manger Mike Schmidt who is doing an awesome job. In addition I’d like to thank Kathy van Ingen and Richard Lewis. All these people give me the support I need and take care of their specific duties and that makes me a stronger fighter. I have nothing to worry about and we are a successful team.
TBE: Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions.
Lisa: My pleasure.
